LABRO

Bio

LABRO (aka Tania Torres), the Puerto Rican and Dominican native of Chicago now residing in Tampa, Fl, was exposed very early on to some of the greatest musicians and singers of all time. From the likes of fellow Boriqueno and Father of Salsa Hector Lavoe, to The Godfather of Funk James Brown, to the Blues god BB King and Classical Giant Johann Sebastian Bach. But, the most impactful was, the incomparable Sheila E, who very quickly held the unofficial, coveted spot as LABRO’s idol.

Starting their musical career at the age of 11, LABRO was faced with a most difficult decision of choosing between piano, guitar or percussion as their weapon of choice. Ultimately choosing the 5-piece drum kit, LABRO began an introduction to percussion and music theory at The People's Music School and was given the strong, fundamental basics that would form a well-rounded musician and set them on their musical journey.

In 2002, LABRO was introduced to the SofaKings- one of the illest dj crews in City of Wind. Having been inspired by the alluring and cool nature of this complex musical form, they set out to buy the cheapest vinyl dj set they could afford and spent years watching her peers play, then running home and practicing what she learned. Since then, their technique and style has evolved into a funky, groovy kind of spiritual thing that we like to call: House.
